ETSY SHOP CLOSING

Hello everyone!  I hope that all is well.  I wanted to let you know that I've decided to close my Etsy shop indefinitely.  This has been a decision that I have been pondering for quite some time now.  I recently decided to make it official.

My Etsy shop has been open since 2010.  Since that time, I've sold hats and handbags, bridal fascinators and bridal accessories.  I switched to selling art sometime around 2013.  It began with watercolor illustrations.  Later,  I added prints of my mixed media paintings.  There was a time when I actually sold a lot of prints.  I never sold enough to the point where I could "quit my day job" but, it was wonderful and exciting to know that people liked my work and they actually bought it!

And here we are in 2017.  My Etsy shop has not had a great year. To be honest, the past couple of years have not been great.  It's my own fault.  I really have not put in the time, effort and dedication needed to make my shop a success, it just hasn't been my focus.  I want to take some time to reevaluate the direction I want to go when it comes to not only selling my work but, where the work itself is going. I have grown and changed so much as an artist.  I have so many ideas, dreams and goals.  I want to explore storytelling with my art, publish my book, make more art dolls, paint big canvases and maybe even dabble in performance art.  I just want to play and have fun!  At this time in my creative journey, Etsy is not a priority.

My shop will be closing on November 30.  I will offer paintings for sale from time to time here on the blog and on my Instagram so, follow me there for updates.   To everyone who has purchased art from my Etsy shop, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.  Your support has meant and means so much to me.

Much love,
Sharon

ALTERED ART JOURNAL PORTRAIT

This week, it's all about portraits. I'm dedicating some time to creating images that show expression, especially in the eyes. Eyes are quite the challenge for me so, in order to get better, I have to practice.  That also means working with more intention rather than abstracting the image from the background as i usually do.  I finished this painting this morning.   Its in my new altered art journal.

See the process by clicking on the video below.

Enjoy,
Sharon

AND THE MOON STILL RISES

I've been really struggling with the "inner critic" lately.  As a result, my desire to create has been relatively low.  I haven't been in love with anything that I have created this week.  As a matter of fact I found myself looking at finished pieces and thinking to myself, this is just not good enough.

I know that I am not alone.  Everyone gets a visit from the unwelcome inner critic from time to time. If we are not careful, we can really allow this creativity killer to really get us down.  This morning I woke up determined to get my groove back so, I pulled out my art journal.  I decided that I was going to create something, anything to get myself out of the rut that had been weighing me down.  This art journal page is the result of a very healing art journal session.

I feel like the message from this figure comes directly from my ancestors.  I look to them often for guidance and strength.  I am grateful for the gift of art.  It has great power.   I have to keep pushing forward and create.  And, now that I know that the moon still rises, I can do just that.

Be blessed,
Sharon

WORKS ON PAPER

Hello everyone!  I hope that everyone is having a great productive week.  I've been able to keep myself busy here in the studio with a few creative projects.  In addition to the larger paintings that are in progress, I've been working on smaller paintings on paper.  Working on paper has given me the opportunity to play around.  I've been experimenting with my Neocolor  crayons, gelatos and oil pastels.

I'm also working on adding more collage elements to my paintings.

Here is the finished piece.  It's entitled "Connected".  I added glitter to their gowns and headpieces for sparkle.

This is a detailed look at another painting that I finished this week.  I love how her skin looks, very layered and textured. I used some collage papers on her as well. It makes for some very interesting contrast and depth.  I've incorporated lots of glitter on this piece as well.  I love glitter!

And, here is the finished piece!

What have you created this week?  I'd love to hear all about it.

Have a great day,
Sharon
