SUMMERBREEZIN and DAYDREAMIN

SUMMER BREEZE
DAYDREAMIN

Hey! I hope that everyone had a great weekend.  The weather here wasn't so great, we had alot of rain so, I spent much of my weekend indoors.  I did manage to get a run in on Sunday.  I also finished up the illustrations above that I started last week.

I love how the colors blended on these!  As I mentioned before, with crepe paper paint, the colors are generally not as vivid as with conventional watercolors.  However, depending on the colors that I am using, I can get some really pretty results.  Another thing that I love about painting this way is that you never get the same result twice.  Also, the finished painting looks different when it's totally dry.  Sometimes when the painting is still wet, I'm not sure if it will turn out well.  It's fun to watch how the illustration develops right before my eyes.

In the near future, I will be selling prints of my ladies.  Hopefully in the next few weeks we'll be purchasing a new scanner/printer and we can get the ball rolling on that.  I'll keep you posted!

Have a great Monday!

"AU NATURAL"

Here's another crepe paper paint illustration that I finished today.  I posted this photo to my Instagram account so, I used a filter.  As you can see in the original photo below, the colors are not as vivid.

I'm pretty sure I'll be continuing my natural hair themed illustrations.  I would like to try the ladies on canvas and on fabric.  That's my plan for next week.  I don't plan on working over the weekend.   The weather is supposed to be nice so, I'm going to get out and enjoy it.  What are you plans for the weekend!

Schönes Wochenende!

THE THREE QUEENS

DIE DREI KÖNIGINNEN

I've been experimenting with a new paint technique.  Well, it's new for me.  These three lovely ladies were painted using a "bleeding" technique.

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased several rolls of crepe paper.  At the time, I had no idea how I would use the paper.  I had become frustrated with the acrylic paints and besides that, I've ruined a couple of canvases because, I can't get the paint to blend the way I want to.  Anyway, I know that crepe paper when wet it pretty much like watercolor.  So, I thought I would try painting with crepe paper paint.

I am really pleased with the results.  I had to paint over my drawing several times to get the effect that I wanted.  It did cause the paper to buckle a bit but, I think they turned out very nicely.

I did try painting a background on my paper for each lady.  The backgrounds didn't really thrill me so, I decided to cut my ladies out.  I think I am going to frame them and hang them in my studio.

Painting with crepe paper paint is my new favorite thing.  I already have a few sketches that I want to paint using this technique.  Practice makes perfect so, I'm heading back to my sketch pad, crepe paper and brushes!

Enjoy your day!

DOTTED AND SPOTTED

This watercolor and colored pencil illustration was inspired by Richard Avendon's February 1952 cover for Haper's Bazaar.  Of course, I gave my model her own unique look.

Have a good one!

SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES

I took a quick pause during my power walk today to photograph these beauties.  I'm afraid they won't be around much longer.  It's starting to get cold.  I hope that you're have a fantastic day!

AFROS

Afro Puffs

Afro Queen

Espresso at the Eiffel Tower

Here are a few afro themed projects that I worked on over the weekend.  The first two are watercolor paintings.  I have never really worked with watercolors.  For these paintings I used watercolor pencils.  I colored in my drawing first.  It's really cool to see how the colors blend together after brushing over the paper with water.  I am happy with the results of my work, although I need to practice a bit more to the get the technique right.

The lady in the red beret is a acrylic and fabric paints.  She'll be available for sale soon in my Etsy shop.

How did you spend your weekend?

Have a great Monday!

PARIS 2013

I had a great time in Paris last week!  I made the trip with my Schwiegermutter (mother-in-law) and my  Schwägerin (sister-in-law).  The weather was perfect!  We had sunny skies during our whole trip. On my last two trips it was either rainy or cold.  We really picked the right time to travel to the city of lights.

We stayed in the district of Republique.  Our hotel was nice but, the area itself is very loud. The two nights that we were there, I probably got about two hours of sleep each night.  There are plenty of restaurants and cafes and shopping in the area and, the streets along the canal are nice for strolling and browsing the tiny shops.  The square or Place de Republique is always full of activity.  It's a great place to just sit and people watch.

We chose the subway as our mode of transportation on our first day.  The subway is conveniently  located everywhere in the city and it's relatively easy to navigate your way around to almost all of the must see areas in Paris.  On the second day, we decided to take  a cruise on the Seine river with the Batoboat.   For just 15 Euros you can cruise along the river all day.  The boat stops  at eight sights including Notre Dame and the Louvre where tourist can get on and off as they please for as long as they want to visit these historical landmarks.

I really enjoyed visiting this beautiful city with my family.  However, I probably wont be returning to Paris anytime soon. I think I've grown weary of big cities. It's just too hectic.   Not to mention the fact that my mother-and-law and I almost got run over by a speeding bicyclist!  My husband and I have already decided that the next time we travel to France, we will be headed south towards Provence.  I hear the countryside is beautiful there.  I can't wait to see it with my own eyes and through the lens of my camera.

Have a fabulous day!

YOU CAN BUY THE HATS TOO!

Paintings and hats are available for purchase in my Etsy shop.  Oh, by the way, the cape in the last photo was the inspiration for the painting.  I'm not sure if I want to sell the cape or keep it for myself.  I think it would be perfect for fall.  Maybe I could wear it with a brown turtleneck?

Have a great day!
